Silverdale Primary Academy celebrates ‘GOOD’ Ofsted rating

  • School praised for its “warm and caring” culture
  • Inspectors impressed by “detailed” and “well organised” curriculum
  • Report also highlights wide array of enrichment opportunities on offer to pupils

Silverdale Primary Academy in Newcastle-under-Lyme has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in all five inspection categories, following an inspection in October.

In their report, inspectors commented on what a happy school Silverdale is, describing it as “warm and caring”. Pupils and staff are said to be “kind and thoughtful to each other”, and, importantly, inspectors observed that pupils “enjoy coming to school”. This allows them to learn effectively and make the most of their time at school.

Alongside praising the academy for its “inclusive” culture, inspectors were equally impressed by the quality of the academic curriculum noting that it is “detailed” and “well organised”.  In particular, inspectors highlighted the focus on reading as a key strength of the school, with pupils having access to a “wide range of books” from both the school and local library.

According to the report, enrichment opportunities enhance the academic curriculum and pupils “come to life” as they talk about their experiences. These include trips and visits, such as a trip to a local mine as part of pupils’ study of local history.

Staff are also said to be “ambitious for all pupils” to succeed and feel both valued and proud to work at the school.

Lindi Nejrup, Head Teacher at Silverdale Primary Academy, said:

“I am so pleased that Silverdale has been rated ‘Good’ across the board by Ofsted. The inspectors’ report highlights both the excellent education and wellbeing support on offer, as well as the family feel of our school. It is hugely gratifying that the inspectors could see how much children enjoy being at school, making it a happy place to learn where everyone is valued and supported. Thank you to our staff who put so much work into ensuring that pupils are able to thrive, and of course our pupils and families who make up our wonderful school community.”

Darran Ellison-Lee, Director of Primary Education at United Learning, said:

This is a strong and encouraging report which is testament to the hard work of everyone across the school community. We are confident it is something the school can and will continue to build on over the months and years to come.”
