At Silverdale Primary Academy, we strive to develop a physically active generation of children who are equipped with the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact on their own physical health and well-being. We aim to provide children with a range of experiences and allow them to develop their skills of movement, as well as to develop and apply interpersonal skills, including determination, self-belief, honesty respect and teamwork. Silverdale Primary Academy aim to begin, support and continue a pathway into sport and exercise through an enthusing, inspiring curriculum, extra-curricular programme and school-community club links.
Implementation
At Silverdale Primary Academy, our PE curriculum is inclusive and varied, and long-term plans ensure that the requirements of the National Curriculum are met. Our PE curriculum is well sequenced to ensure progression of knowledge and skills throughout their primary education, thus enabling children to build upon prior learning and apply these fluently and with confidence. Children have the opportunity to further these skills at after school sports clubs thus making club links within the community. Children take part in a range of invasion, striking & fielding and net & wall games. Imagination and creativity are promoted in gymnastics and dance.
We have selected to use the Get Set PE curriculum as this is planned through vertical strands from Eary Years to Year 6, with core knowledge and skills sequenced for a mastery approach. It is our aim to teach the PE curriculum through delivering PE lessons twice weekly across the school. Children in KS2 will attend swimming lessons in Year 3 and 5.
Impact
To fulfil our vision of inspiring a generation, at Silverdale Primary Academy we motivate children to participate in a variety of sports and physical activities which are engaging and fun. Our Physical Education Curriculum is high quality, well sequenced and planned to demonstrate progression. Fundamental skills are developed and applied to a range of sports and activities. Opportunities for children to evaluate their own and others’ performance are provided within lessons. Children will understand how to lead a healthy lifestyle and the importance of exercise. Children will leave school being able to swim 25metres competently and equipped with the skills to self-rescue in the water.
Our P.E curriculum is also planned in a way which promotes the cultural capital of all our children. We enhance our curriculum especially for the most disadvantaged by organising guest speakers and visitors, organising and attending sporting events. Cultural capital in Physical Education has been identified in terms of the knowledge and skills that are useful to our lives and we are aware that powerful knowledge will put children at an advantage.
